  • Company is focused on the broadcast space, which is currently undergoing tremendous technological change. This may drive lot of investment dollars and new business for service providers like International Data Casting. Some of the changes that could drive new technology and investment in satellite broadcasting include the launch of High Definition Television, 3D television, IP TV (Internet Protocol based TV) digital cinema, video on demand etc.
  • IDC has expanded its reach by focusing on rich media, principally the delivery of audio/video signals over satellite networks which is a growth area. For example the recent FIFA world cup was broadcast in 3D and using IDC equipment was shown in a number of movie theatres around the world
  • Global customer base - IDC has installations in networks in over 100 countries around the world
  • Blue chip customer base that includes Thomson Reuters, CBS Westwood One, National Public radio, AccessIT, SES Americom, Best Buy, Echostar, TVN, and a host of others
  • While the company has been around for 25 years, the company had a management and ownership change which lead to a strong management team with deep knowledge in broadcasting space taking a leadership role in the organization. This is a positive development for the company
  • IDC develops and manufactures hardware and software and is ISO 9001 compliant (quality management system). Core products include hardware and software for high-speed broadband. Company is emerging as a system integrator which provides design, equipment software and installation service, the ability to offer “turnkey solutions”
  • The fiscal year which ended in January 2010 was a tough year for the company as the slowdown in new capital investment hurt the company’s revenues and margins. The first quarter 2011 saw an increase in revenue from the corresponding quarter in previous year. However the EBITDA loss increased in the 1st quarter of 2011.
  • At the end of 1st quarter of fiscal 2011 the company had $4.8 million in cash
  • In June 2010, the company announced that it has entered into an agreement with The Wananchi Group for the development, build up and roll-out of a new direct-to-home broadcasting service that will provide television programming to the Sub-Saharan region of Africa. This contract is valued (as per the company) as up to $16 Million

Risks

Competing terrestrial technology adoption and macroeconomic factors influencing capital expenditure decisions can significantly affect company’s prospects. Company is not currently profitable and may need capital if it doesn’t become profitable soon.
