What is interesting about Medoro Resources Ltd. (T.MRS)?

  • Medoro Resources is one of the very few companies active in Colombia with a porphyry type gold project and a large size gold resource deposit.
  • The company’s flagship Marmato deposit lies within the important mid-Cauca porphyry belt which includes its Marmato deposit as well as other world class deposits including the La Colosa project of AngloGoldAshanti (NYSE: AU) with a gold resource deposit of approximately 13 million ounces.
  • The Marmato gold deposit is near surface, contains mostly free gold and is still open to depth in South-East and North-West directions.
  • Medoro Resources is well positioned on becoming a significant gold producer in Colombia. With measured and indicated gold resources estimated at approximately 7.5 million ounces at Marmato, an inferred resource of approximately 2.2 million ounces and its operating Mineros Nacionales gold mine, the Company is moving forward to build a gold mine at the Marmato project.
  • The company is focused on developing an open pit gold mine at Marmato. With a large size gold resource deposit, an excellent infrastructure surrounding the company and strong future exploration prospects, it is well poised to achieve this objective.
  • The company expects that a NI 43-101 resource estimate will be released this quarter in the context of potential mining scenarios.
  • Following the NI 43-101 resource estimate report, the company plans to carry out a Preliminary Economic Assessment to move the project towards production.
  • The company has a strong team of management with excellent local knowledge and operational experience.
  • With approximately $20 million in the treasury the company is well funded to carry its exploration and development programs.
  • Recent takeover bid of Ventana Gold (TSX: VEN), another emerging Colombian gold company, by Brazil's EBX Group, highlights the consolidation activities in Colombia. This will bring the spotlight on new regions of gold resource development such as Colombia and companies such as Medoro Resources that are active within those regions and have already built a sizable gold resource deposit.

Risks

Medoro Resources Ltd. is an early stage exploration company. The commercialization risks associated with mineral exploration and development are high and its prospects for discovering economically viable resources are uncertain. Gold prices can fluctuate and a decline in gold could impact the share price of the company adversely. Early stage exploration companies typically needs significant amount of capital and although currently well financed, Medoro Resources may still require additional financing. This could result in shareholders’ dilution.
