What is interesting about Hudson Resources Inc. (V.HUD)?

  • Hudson Resources is one of the few junior resource companies with a focus on rare earth metals and has real exploration project to identify specialty metals such as niobium and tantalum.
  • The market for rare earth element (REE) metals is fast growing and REE usage is dramatically increasing in high technology applications including hybrid automobiles. China currently dominates REE production and end-users are scrambling to diversify supply. Companies such as Hudson Resources with exposure to rare earth exploration continue to attract strong interest from investors.
  • The primary exploration focus for the company is the wholly owned Sarfartoq carbonatite project in west-central Greenland. The property covers one of the largest carbonatite intrusive complexes globally.
  • The Sarfartoq project is very well located with tidewater and a proposed hydroelectric plant within 20 kilometres. It boasts great infrastructure and access is by helicopter from a modern international airport with daily flights.
  • Another project of interest for the company is Garnet Lake Diamond project. The Garnet Lake kimberlite dyke is similar in configuration to the dyke being mined by De Beers at Snap Lake and is known to host large, high quality diamonds. Dike has significant tonnage potential as determined by seismic and drilling activities.
  • An active 5,000 to 10,000 meters drilling program is planned for 2010, which can provide strong investment catalysts for the company.
  • An experienced management team with strong knowledge of mining operations is a big plus for the company.
  • The company recently raised $5 million in a private placement. A well financed treasury will enable the company to carry its exploration programs without any hindrance through 2010.

Risks

Hudson Resources is an early stage exploration company. The commercialization risks associated with rare earth metals exploration and development are high and its prospects for discovering economically viable REE metals are uncertain.  REE prices can fluctuate significantly and a decline in the REE metal prices could impact the share price of the company adversely. Early stage exploration companies typically needs significant amount of capital and although currently well capitalized, Hudson Resources may require additional financing. This could result in shareholders’ dilution.
